Howler Summer: 3x3, camps and basketball when the league rests
The league rests, but basketball doesn't. The Howler guide to summer in Badalona: street 3x3, camps, open courts and how to keep the stand alive until the season returns.
The league shuts down, but basketball doesn’t go on holiday. In Badalona, summer is when the ball goes back to the street: 3x3, camps, courts open late and a stand that never fully switches off. Here’s the Howler guide to living basketball while the season rests.
The league rests, basketball doesn’t
Once the season ends, its own cycle kicks in: post-season, 3x3 and street ball, summer camps, a well-earned break, fitness prep and, before you know it, pre-season and the first tournaments. The fire doesn’t go out; it just changes format.
3x3 rules the summer
The short format is king in good weather: half a court, all the intensity, and the street as your arena. In Badalona, neighbourhood platforms like Juguem a Bàsquet run street 3x3 and campaign for decent public courts —a project we admire. Grab a ball and head to your nearest court: they’re all on their map.
Camps: the pipeline doesn’t stop
Summer is also when many players take a step forward. The city’s clubs run camps and skills programs so the youngest keep growing with a ball in their hands. Today’s grassroots are tomorrow’s stand —and tomorrow’s players.
The stand does summer too
We don’t fully stop either. Summer is for keeping the crew alive: a meetup, a tardeo, a vermut watching highlights, and planning how we’ll be back in the stand when the ref blows the whistle. We’ll be posting it on our calendar — come along and pitch in.
Back soon, and louder
As the days get shorter, pre-season and the first games return. And so do we, voices rested and hunger intact.
Summer isn’t a pause: it’s training for the stand. Play 3x3, look after the courts and don’t lose your rhythm — because this is where you howl all year round, heat and all.
The Howler Monkeys Club is an independent stand movement: we link to and celebrate these projects, but we don’t represent any of them.
