What are the Howler Monkeys? The stand movement for Badalona women's basketball

The Howler Monkeys are a stand movement born in Badalona to back women's basketball with respect, intensity and humour. Here's where we come from and where we're headed.

What are the Howler Monkeys? The stand movement for Badalona women's basketball

We didn’t come to watch. We came to cheer. The Howler Monkeys are a stand movement born in Badalona to give voice, noise and feeling to women’s basketball — with respect, intensity and plenty of humour. This is the story of who we are, where we come from and where we want to go.

We’re not spectators. We’re the stand.

A stand that watches doesn’t change a game. A stand that plays does. We started with a simple but radical idea: the crowd is the sixth player, and women’s basketball still has plenty of ceiling left to fill with noise. We don’t come to pass the time; we come to push. When the game gets tight, when the decisive stretch arrives, when our players’ legs are shaking, that’s when we shout loudest. Noise isn’t a whim: it’s energy that goes back onto the court.

Where the movement comes from

Howler Monkeys crest It all starts in the stands of grassroots women’s basketball in Badalona. Among families, friends, sisters and people who went to watch a game and ended up staying to cheer for real. Out of that spontaneous noise, game after game, something bigger emerged: a tone, an attitude and an identity. We gave it a name, colours and a chant. That’s how the Howler Monkeys were born — because howling, done well, is also a form of respect.

Why women’s basketball

Because it deserves it and because it’s needed. Women’s basketball has talent, intensity, rivalries and stories worth telling, but far too often it plays in front of half-empty stands. A full, noisy court isn’t a detail: it changes how a game is lived, how the players compete and how the sport grows. We choose to put our bodies and our voices where it matters: beside our own, every weekend.

Our code: respect, intensity, humour

We have a code that sums it all up. We compete with passion, but the rival isn’t the enemy: zero bad vibes off the court. Humour is required — we take it seriously, but not too seriously. And above all, one team, always: we back a whole team, not a single player. We don’t try to shout louder than anyone; we try to cheer better.

What makes us different

Howl? Not everyone gets it We’re not noise for noise’s sake. We’re a stand with a brand, an aesthetic and a crew feeling. We have an anthem, a code, stickers and a way of doing things. “Not everyone gets it” isn’t arrogance: it’s that the movement asks for commitment, continuity and presence, not occasional spectators. Those who come once notice it; those who stay are already one of us.

Spread the Howl

We started in Badalona, but Spread the Howl isn’t an empty slogan — it’s the intention. Wherever there’s women’s basketball and people who want to howl, a crew can grow. The idea is agnostic and expandable by design: what unites us isn’t a club, it’s a way of understanding the stand.

Not everyone gets it — and that’s fine. But those who do already know: this is where you howl.
