How to read it: we’re mostly talking grassroots and territorial basketball, not just the elite. Teams, divisions and arenas change every season — before you head out, check the schedule on the Catalan Federation (FCBQ) and the club’s socials.
The elite at home: la Penya women’s
Club Joventut Badalona has a women’s program top to bottom: the first team plays in the Lliga Femenina Endesa (Spain’s top tier) and runs a full youth pyramid. It’s the city’s elite reference. It usually plays at l’Olímpic, and the women’s side has been based at Pavelló La Plana.
The grassroots clubs with women’s teams
This is where the fandom grows — and in Badalona nearly every grassroots club has a women’s section. Per the official list for the 36th Copa Badalona de Bàsquet (City Council), these compete in the women’s category:
- Unió Bàsquet Llefià
- AE Minguella
- CB Sant Josep (Màgic Badalona)
- AE Sant Andreu de Natzaret
- El Círcol (Círcol Catòlic)
- AE Badalonès
- AEE Col·legi Cultural
- Maristes Ademar
- A. Bàsquet Bufalà
- AE DOSA (as Salesians Badalona)
And Badalona Bàsquet Club —a separate entity from la Penya, despite the name— also fields women’s teams.
Where it’s played: the arenas
Games are spread across the municipal arenas. The main ones:
- Pavelló La Plana — Centre
- Pavelló Municipal Pomar — Pomar
- Pavelló dels Països Catalans / Ausiàs March — Centre
- l’Olímpic — Gorg (the big arena)
Games also happen at the Poliesportiu de Llefià, Montigalà and the Màgic Badalona complex (Montigalà area). Remember: which team plays in which arena can vary each season — confirm it on the FCBQ.
Street basketball
If what you want is to play, Badalona has dozens of public courts. The most complete map is kept by the neighbourhood platform Juguem a Bàsquet, which catalogues the city’s courts and campaigns for their upkeep —a project we admire. Three well-known ones: Plaça de la Plana, Pista Iris (Casagemes) and Plaça de Pomar — and many more (Carmelites, Montigalà, Bufalà, Llefià…) on their map.
